OUR SHORT COMMINGS
CECD came into existence as a child of necessity since 2004 and has been consistently focused on conservation of tropical rainforests environment in Nigeria. The rate of destruction of rainforests in the southern part of Nigeria can be described as the highest in the world. This situation has resulted to lost of substantial part of our rainforest and its un taped resources. The poverty level in our rainforest communities also remain the highest. That led to our undertaking save the rainforest project. The project was packaged to partner with communities, governments and the corporate organizations for capital and technical expertise to protect the tropical rainforest ecosystems and improve the livelihood of the inhabitants who are poor and getting poorer as they degrade their natural environment for peasant operations. This was intended to be achieved by developing viable economic alternatives, and through intensive awareness campaign as well as building an intensive national network in Nigeria to organize local and international markets for tropical rainforest renewable resources.
Meanwhile, since inception, it has been an uphill task to get capital and move forward at the normal pace on our project, as most of the expenses are burned by the Executive Director and the few members of his team. However, the team is seeking out for sponsors, grant partners and full time project partners both in Nigeria and the world over.
Our immediate needs include cameras, funds for publications, workshops, mobility facilities, and to demarcate over 60acres of virgin rainforest land giving to us by Legunmare community of omifunfun, Ode Irele in Ondo state for our pilot conservation project
Your timely intervention can help to save our rainforests and its biological treasures as well as support millions of its inhabitants!
